All about Captain Morgan distillery
The Rum brand Captain Morgan was created by the Spirits company, Seagram Company Ltd. in 1944.The acquisition process that saw Seagram broken up, change hands and ultimately lead to Diageo taking control of the brand.
The Captain Morgan in your bottle varies depending upon the market you are in, as Diageo buy distillates of varying ages from unaged to lightly aged, and from different Rum producing markets to make a specific blend for each market.
The only common factor across the market is that ‘The Original’ (Dark) expression Rum will have a dose of caramel added to make it look the way it does.
