All about Uncle Nearest
The Uncle Nearest brand was inspired by the best Whiskey maker the world ever knew – Nathan “Nearest” Green, the first African-American master distiller on record in the US.
Nathan Green (his family and friends called him Uncle Nearest) was born into slavery, working on Reverend Call’s farm (and operating a Whiskey still in his free time). Many believe Green may have perfected what is now known as the Lincoln Country Process – a process that defines Tennessee Whiskey.
The brand which was founded in 2017 by Fawn Weaver is the first in the Spirits’ history to commemorate an African American. It holds the title of the Most Awarded Bourbon and American Whiskey of 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 with over 695 awards and accolades since the brand’s launch, including 464 gold medals or higher, 78 Best in Class honors and an average critic’s score of 92.
Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey is now sold in all 50 states and 12 countries in more than 25,000 stores, bars, hotels, and restaurants, as well as at its 432-acre Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, TN. Their line-up includes premium aged Whiskeys distilled using only locally sourced grains, aged, bottled, and hand-labeled in Tennessee.
