Un Irlandais inhabituel.

La distillerie Cooley a été fondée en 1987 par John Teeling et était alors la première distillerie nouvellement créée en Irlande depuis plus de 100 ans. Grâce à son accès à l'eau pure et propre de la rivière Slieve na gCloc, elle bénéficie d'un emplacement idéal pour la production de whisky. L'exploitation utilise des alambics à colonne et à repasse, ce qui lui permet de produire du whisky de malt et de grain.

Le Connemara Peated Cask Strength est le seul whiskey irlandais produit à partir de son degré naturel – 57,90 % vol. Naturel et non dilué, le Cask Strength n'est ni filtré à froid ni coloré. Il est distillé deux fois, et non trois fois comme la plupart des whiskeys irlandais.

You do get the alcohol in the ...

You do get the alcohol in the aroma as expected, but earth and smoke are present as well along with some sweetness. You get the peat and some malt and fruit in the flavor, but the combination along with the cask strength makes my lips and tongue vibrate. Small sips are in order for this one. A dash of water doesn't change the taste much. While not usually recommended for single malts - this might be best over an ice cube as it lets things mellow out. I have had the Connemara 12 Year before, and recall enjoying it more - in the future I'll stick to that one.
