The upper-crust of Tequilas from 1800 with the softening influence of French oak casks.

Don José Antonio de Cuervo was granted a plot of land in Tequila, Jalisco, by the King of Spain in 1758. This is where he and his family founded the Taberna de Cuervo family farm where he planted his first blue agave plants. The first bottles of their signature product were sold in 1795. José Cuervo stayed in family hands for several generations through marriages and inheritance. But the growth has been steady all along. Now owned by the Beckmann Family, José Cuervo Tequila controls 35% of the worldwide Tequila market by sales — a full 20% by volume — with one of the broadest line-ups in the Tequila-drinking world.

1800 Añejo Tequila is great for craft cocktails. But we say give it a sip neat first… you might find that you like it that way. That’s because this fine Tequila is 100% Weber blue agave that’s been slow-roasted and gently fermented with natural yeasts. Then it’s been aged a minimum of fourteen months in small French oak casks — which is rather rare since most Añejos are aged in used Bourbon casks. It’s a difference you can taste.

Smartass Corner:
"1800" is a recognition of the first year in which Tequila was aged in oak barrels.

Appearance / Color
Medium Amber

Nose / Aroma / Smell
On the nose you’ll find a nice mix of herbs — cilantro and lemongrass — over vanilla, tobacco leaf, melon, and a bit of butterscotch.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate opens with a smooth mouth-feel and notes of agave, earthy spices, a hint of flamed orange zest, harvest grasses, and just a dab of salted caramel.

Finish
The finish is medium-to-long with a blooming pepper spice at the end.
