A gorgeous, heavily Sherried Speyside Single Malt exploding with power and flavor.
There is some question about the exact date of its founding. But we know for certain that James Fleming either built, or rebuilt the Aberlour Distillery in 1879. We also know that Aberlour makes an amazing range of Highland Single Malts in the classic Speyside style and we’d gladly sample anything they send our way. And their Whiskies win lots of awards, taking home medals in every serious industry competition they enter.
We read a LOT of Whisky reviews. Seriously… The things we do for you people! Anyway, whenever we’re comparing notes with our fellow Whisky-experts, no matter how great a dram is there’s always some bloke who doesn’t like it and let’s everyone know in no uncertain terms. Until now. Because we haven’t found anyone who doesn’t love Aberlour A'bunadh Batch 55. It’s a regularly scheduled, limited edition release of gorgeous Highland Single Malt aged exclusively in Oloroso Sherry casks and bottled at nearly cask strength. Batch #55 comes in at a powerful 60.9% ABV bursting with savory flavor.
Smartass corner:
The Aberlour labels claim they were founded in 1879. But a distillery named Aberlour has been located on the same site since 1826. The official company “legend” goes all the way back to the Druids, but skips the distillery’s 18th century history and picks it up again in the 1900s. I suspect a bit of legal wrangling.
