The Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago is home to the Angostura Distillery, one of the most famous Rum producers in the country. The company can trace its origins back to German Dr Siegert, who was working for Simon Bolivar’s army at the time. He soon left the army in pursuit of the noble craft of creating bitters, something that the company still does to this day. The company began producing Rum in the early 1900s and has been successfully doing so ever since.
Made from a blend of Rums aged eight years and matured in Bourbon casks, this is a brilliant expression from Angostura’s range. The Rum is characteristically sweet and takes on some vanilla features from the barrel. It is a combination of both light and dark molasses based Rums, an aspect that can be experience in the saccharine sweet flavours. The Angstura 1919 is a really great example of the high quality range of Rums on offer from this Carribbean distillery.
