Auchentoshan 1988… the math adds up to “seriously tasty.”

Auchentoshan sounds like the name of a medieval warrior, but it actually translates from Gaelic as the field in the corner. The locals call it Glasgow’s Malt Whisky because the distillery sits nearby, and it is one of the few remaining Lowland Single Malt Whiskies left in the world. But what you really need to know is that Auchentoshan does four things that make it special: they lightly malt the barley, it never gets anywhere near peat smoke, it’s triple distilled, and it’s aged only in premium Bourbon, Sherry, Port, and Wine casks.

Auchentoshan loves dropping special limited editions on the market, and all of them are greeted by the Whisky-loving community with enthusiasm and smiles. This is one of those. There were only 1800 bottles made. If that sounds like a lot, it’s not when you consider how man fans they have around the world. It will go quick.

Auchentoshan 1988 spent its first 8 years in traditional ex-Bourbon casks. Then it was transferred to Saint-Julien Bordeaux wine casks for another 12 years. If you add all that up, it takes all of your fingers and toes because that’s a FULL 20 years. And they keep it real, pouring out at 52.4% ABV. If your mouth isn’t watering yet there, we rest our case.
