Auchentoshan Solera

Auchentoshan Solera tastes like it was aged with love. 
 
 
Auchentoshan sounds like the name of a medieval warrior, but it actually translates from Gaelic as “the field in the corner.” The locals call it “Glasgow’s Malt Whisky” because the distillery sits nearby, and it is one of the few remaining Lowland Single Malt Whiskies left in the world. But what you need to really need to know is that Auchentoshan does four things that make it special: they lightly malt the barley, it never gets anywhere near peat smoke, it’s triple distilled, and is aged only in premium Bourbon, Sherry, Port, and Wine casks.
 
Auchentoshan Solera is one of those special opportunities coming out of the travel retail market. You may remember that it’s pretty common for major distillers to bottle up unique products that only available in the duty-free shops and Caribbean ports of call for travelers to pick up. You just can’t get it down at the corner liquor store. This is one of those. 

 
And this Auchentoshan dram is special for another reason. It’s a “Solera” which means that it comes from a long line of casks pouring one into the other so that it becomes a mix of ages. And if you think about it, this also means that the longer that Solera production line is running, the better the end product gets over time. But the final step in this Whisky is a finish in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks — you know, the expensive ones — and gosh-darn it comes out tasty. Enough talking already… get yours now.
