Wise beyond his age.
Founded in 1779, The Bowmore Distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland. This storied distillery lies on the west coast of Islay on the shore of Loch Indaal where they make one of the most recognized smoky drams in the Whisky world. Islay is special. For centuries, all they had in this rugged land was the local barley, clear spring water, peat for fuel, and the sea. If you take all that and wring it into a barrel, you get Bowmore — a classic single malt Islay Whisky spirit that clings to the memory of the barley, the peat, and the sea.
The Bowmore core range starts with their famous 12 YO. If you let that signature spirit rest in the salty spray of the storm-tossed North Atlantic for a full eighteen years, you get something even better — Bowmore 18. The extra years do it some good. Bowmore 18 is more mellow than its younger brethren, and there is a hint of sweet fruit on the palate that just might surprise you in an Islay Single Malt. It is by turns sweet and bracing, mellowed by the sea, and salted with a tight sweetness as a curl of Havanna smoke drifts slowly upward.
