Worth its salt.
Founded in 1779, The Bowmore Distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland. Castles made of sand fall into the sea eventually, but Bowmore is here to last. This storied distillery lies on the west shore of Islay where they make one of the most recognized smoky drams in the Whisky world. Islay is special. For centuries, all they had in this rugged land was the local barley, clear spring water, peat for fuel, and the sea. If you take all that and wring it into a barrel, you get Bowmore — a classic single malt Islay Whisky that’s certainly worth its salt.
Bowmore knows that this special environment defines its special product. That’s why they’ve decided to honor it with a special collection. Bowmore Vault Edition No. 1 is the first in the range of single malts calling attention to one of the unique elements that influence the style of their Whisky. Distillery’s proximity to the sea affects the character of the Spirit and the Atlantic Ocean spray that washes against the sea-facing wall of Bowmore’s legendary underwater No.1 Vaults determines that sea salt is a key note in this release.
The fact the Whiskey is bottled at 51,5 % ABV, means the dram packs a hefty punch. You can add a pinch of water to stem the tide, or you can meet the crashing waves head on. Whatever you prefer. The dram is as intense, complex and smoky as any true Islaynder should be. Plus it carries the enticement of that distinctive character created by the alchemy in the legendary seaside warehouse. Perhaps, you can take the last bit with a pinch of salt.
