Bowmore Vintner's Trilogy 18 Year Old Double Matured Manzanilla

As the oldest distillery in Islay, you just know that Bowmore knows a thing or two about making peated Scotch.

History has left them with a few great stories to tell over the years, not least of all that their distillery was used during World War II as an air base to monitor and protect ships passing through the Atlantic. When it comes to making Whisky though Bowmore has always been a distillery looking to the future. Bowmore was one of the first distilleries to use shell and tube condensers to cool Whisky spirit vapor into liquid. They also installed an innovative heating system in the 80s that uses waste heat to warm water in the distillery and the local Islay swimming pool. Scotch distilleries hate making any waste and Bowmore is definitely one of them.

When it comes to making Whisky, however, Bowmore stands ahead of the pack. This smoky and floral Islay Whisky is often known for its subtle Lavender flavors and here we have seen them take their iconic 18-year-old to new levels. This release is part of three expressions showing how a variety of flavors can be produced from Bowmore spirit using different Wine Casks. After 13 years in Bourbon Casks, this Whisky spends its final 5 years in Manzanilla Sherry Casks and joins a select list of Whiskies produced in the exclusive No. 1 Vaults at Bowmore. With a non-chill filtered ABV of 52.5% and distinct flavor profile such as blackcurrant and chamomile, this one could be jumping straight on the collectibles list of all smoky Whisky fans.
