There are less than four hundred bottles of this Highland Single Malt gem aged fourteen years in a single ex-Sherry cask.
Douglas of Drumlanrig is an independent bottler of Scottish Spirits dealing almost exclusively in rare and orphaned Single Malts. To us, it seems like a great way to earn a living — search the rickhouses of the worlds greatest distilleries and roll out your favorite barrels for limited edition, single-cask release. They were founded in 1948 and are now a part of International Spirits & Wines.
Craigellachie has been producing Single Malt Whisky on site since 1891. It’s one of the original Speyside Whiskies. The name Craigellachie means "rocky hill" and, sure enough, it’s a Speysider that sits on a rocky hill directly across from The Macallan facility in the township of Aberlour.
Craigellachie 14 Year Old Douglas of Drumlanrig is a rare, occasionally released gem. The last time it was available was in September of 2019 and it was universally praised and sold out quickly. This bottling is from a single ex-Sherry cask distilled in February of 2000 that yielded less than 400 bottles at a spot-perfect 46% ABV.
Smartass Corner:
Douglas of Drumlanrig was the illegitimate son of James Douglas, the 2nd Earl of Douglas. Born in the 14th century, being "illegitimate" meant that life would be hard. Never the less, he proved his valor and was eventually knighted and had a notable career as a soldier and diplomat — and that’s worth a dram in our opinion.
