One of the best vintage cask release from a great distillery and a great brand.

Heaven Hill Distillers is unique. They are one of the oldest and largest Bourbon distillers in the world, they have the second largest standing inventory of aging Bourbon, and they have grown to become the seventh largest supplier of Spirits in the US. BUT… they are still family owned. In fact, they are the only family-owned production house left in Kentucky. You’ve got to respect the Shapira family! The Spirit brands owned and controlled by Heaven Hill includes Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, their namesake Heaven Hill, and many dozens more.

Evan Williams Single Barrel Bourbon Vintage 2003, came out in 2015. Our sources have dug deeply into their Bourbon cellars and they’ve come up with a few cases of this blast from the past.

Each year, Bourbon aficionados around the world wait eagerly for the annual Even Williams Vintage Single Barrel release. For this edition, Heaven Hill took casks laid down in 2003 that had aged for ten years and seven months. The mash bill in 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley and it’s bottled at 43.3% ABV — so you know that this is a sweet and smooth dram with a light floral note on the nose.

Smartass Corner:
The original Evan Williams is a legend. In 1783 he opened one of the first commercial distilleries in Kentucky on 5th Street in downtown Louisville. Then, like now, location is everything. It was a combination of high-quality Whiskey and easy access to the city that spurred his success.

Appearance / Color
Deep Amber

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is deep, complex, and satisfying with cinnamon, vanilla, oak, blackberry jam, granola clusters, and fresh herbs… a real delight on the nose.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
On the full-bodied palate the herbals are a thread that ties all the classic notes of vanilla, toffee, oak, and baking spice notes together.

Finish
The finish is nicely long with the palate continuing on.

Its a bourbon, it is very pleasant, it is aromatic I did not find it deeply complex but I did find it satisfying.

This is everything a bourbon needs to be with an extra smoothness over others I have tasted. the best description for me is this is a Bourbon create with fitness...
