Another winning Vintage Single Barrel Bourbon from Even Williams that we adore.

Heaven Hill Distillers is unique. They are one of the oldest and largest Bourbon distillers in the world, they have the second largest standing inventory of aging Bourbon, and they have grown to become the seventh largest supplier of Spirits in the US. BUT… they are still family owned. In fact, they are the only family-owned production house left in Kentucky. You’ve got to respect the Shapira family! The Spirit brands owned and controlled by Heaven Hill includes Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, their namesake Heaven Hill, and many dozens more.

Each year, Bourbon aficionados around the world wait eagerly for the annual Even Williams Vintage Single Barrel release. For the 2019 edition, they picked a few barrels that were distilled in mid 2010 and bottled at the end of 2018 — delivering a smooth character at more than eight years old and 43.3% ABV. All the stats are listed right there on the bottle — even the specific barrel number. And part of the awesomeness of drams like this is that it is a true single barrel, so there will be differences between bottles if they came from different casks. That means you can keep on enjoying it again and again as if it were new.

Smartass corner:
The original Evan Williams is a legend. In 1783 he opened one of the first commercial distilleries in Kentucky on 5th Street in downtown Louisville. Then, like now, location is everything. It was a combination of high-quality Whiskey and easy access to the city that spurred his success.

Appearance / Color
Golden Amber

Nose / Aroma / Smell
Our sample bottle had wonderful aromas of baking spices, cake, gingerbread, and baked apples.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
On the palate we taste shortbread biscuits, orange zest, toasted oak, and roasted coconut chips.

Finish
The finish is pleasantly long with a note of cornbread.

Colour dark yellow, very nice....

Colour dark yellow, very nice. Looks like there will be something here. Super interesting nose, warm, not sweet, grains! Some fruit, tates?

Taste is complex, not too sweet either. Still has honey in it. Fun, warms the mouth. Pepper. Thick bourbony general feeling, sharpish, tastes like splinters. Some bread. Liked this the dirst time around but now I can’t get excited about this at all.

Also the cork seems cheap and is starting to break for my bottle. Not going to get another one of these.
