A surprisingly modern fruit-forward Gin made more surprising by the bright pink hue.

Amsterdam Craft Gin Company was founded by Alexander Janssens and Patrick van der Peet. As Dutch natives transplanted to London, they felt a kinship with Dutch King William III — known as William of Orange — who moved from Holland to England to assume the English throne and shortly thereafter began distilling a Spirit from his homeland — Gin. They researched old records to find Willaim’s original recipe and have recreated it at Herman Jansen Distillers in Schiedam, launching Gin 1689 in the UK last year. They are growing quickly and have recently taken on investors to facilitate stretching the brand internationally.

Gin 1689 Authentic Dutch Pink Gin is "almost" the same as their core Gin recipe. That means it starts with the same three hundred year-old ingredient list of juniper, dried quince, pippin apple, lemon and orange zest, nutmeg, anise, and clove. But during their research they found a note that this king’s Gin was best enjoyed with a strawberry and raspberry muddled in the bottom of the glass. This is what they call a "eureka moment."

For Gin 1689 Authentic Dutch Pink Gin they have added those two fruits to the maceration process, transforming the normally clear Spirit to an transcendent pink hue and fruiting up the flavor profile nicely.

Smartass Corner:
The "1689" in the name refers to the year that William of Orange invaded Southwest England and deposed James I — assuming the throne and bringing Gin to England for the first time.
