A surprising, 100% corn, Single Grain Irish Whiskey finished in French Red Wine casks.
Hibernia Distillers is fairly new, being founded in 2014 by brothers Conor and Alan Hyde in the wee town of Skibbereen, Ireland. But in a few short years this small-town maker of traditional Single Malt and Single Grain Irish Whiskey is rocking the world with products available in fifteen countries and an early, hard-won reputation for creating a line of seven amazing, aromatic, award-winning examples of liquid Irish pride.
First things first… Hyde 6 Year Old No. 5 The Áras Cask is a real Irish Whiskey. But it is also a single or "pure" grain Whiskey. And that grain is corn.
What’s that you say!? An Irish Whiskey made from 100% corn? Yes, that’s exactly what we are saying.
Hyde 6 Year Old No. 5 The Áras Cask is triple-distilled in a Coffey column still just like an Irish Whiskey should be. And it’s aged for six years in re-charred ex-Bourbon casks. Then it’s finished for an additional six months in Burgundy Red Wine casks from the Côte d’Or region of France. The Spirits is bottled at our favorite 46% ABV.
