Limited Irish Whiskey with a fantastic beer cask influence.
There’s an explosion of Whiskeys finished in barrels that used to hold beer, an experiment we’re quite fond of, really. After Glenfiddich’s IPA Experiment and Jameson’s Caskmates Stout comes another Whiskey feat. beer collab — this time from Hyde Distillery. They carry the name of the first President of Ireland, Douglas Hyde, and while he did not produce Whiskey, he is an inspirational figure for all the Irish. The Whiskey-making side of the family, however, goes way back. They owned bars in West Cork between 1640 and 1962, and they were famous for having some of the best Irish Whiskeys available. Alan and Conor Hyde hail from that impressive lineage and they’re not messing about.
Hyde #8 Stout Cask Finish Whiskey is a triple-distilled blend of 75% grain and 25% malt Whiskey. The grain one was matured in ex-Bourbon casks for four years, while the malt spent the same amount of time in former Oloroso Sherry butt. The blend was then moved for another six months to a cask infused with Stout that came from the Cotton Ball micro-brewery. This delectable recipe resulted in a Whiskey that teems with notes of coffee and malt. Beware, though: only 5000 bottles exist.
