A light and fresh Irish Whiskey highlighting Jameson’s distilling style.
Back in the late 1700’s Ireland, there was one powerful distilling family in two branches — the Haigs and the Steins. John Jameson was originally from Scotland, but married into the Haig family and moved to Dublin 1777 where he was put in charge of the new Bow Street Distillery. After working hard for years, he eventually acquired the entire operation in 1810 and the Jameson & Son Distillery Company was born. Since then Jameson has become the most recognizable and best-selling Irish Whiskey in the world delivering over 56 million bottles of golden Irish nectar each year.
In 2016, Jameson created a series of limited editions they called "The Whiskey Makers Series." Each of the three releases highlighted the contribution of a craftsman in the process — Head Cooper (barrel maker), Head Blender, and Head Distiller. Jameson The Distiller’s Safe focused on the contributions of Jameson’s master distiller Brian Nation. It’s a grand idea, and real education. This edition dials back the influence of the wood and draws welcome attention to the craft of distillation and at Jameson. And it’s an award-winner — taking Master and Gold honors from The Spirits Journal.
Smartass Corner:
The "Distiller’s Safe" is a box — usually clear glass — where the new-make spirit passes through and is sampled by the master distiller. It’s how he decide where to place the "cut" — or where the good spirits start and stop during distillation.
