One of the world’s best examples of Anjou pear Eau ‘de Vie, bar none.

Joseph Cartron founded his namesake company in 1882. Ever since it has been managed by an unbroken chain of his family descendants. Located in the Burgundy region — Nuits-Saint-Georges just south of Dijon — they have been making some of the finest Brandies and Eau ‘d Vie in all of France for nearly one-hundred and twenty years. They have a wide range of ultra-premium Spirits, but are perhaps best known for their famous Creme de Cassis Liqueur.

Joseph Cartron Poire Williams Des Monts De La Cote D’or is very special. It is made from select Anjou pears. Following a long, painstaking process, the fermented and distilled Eau ‘de Vie is rested is glass demijohns for two to five years. Then the various canisters are matched and married before bottling at 49% ABV. The result is a remarkably aromatic, fruity, and floral Spirit that is sought-after by every fan of genre. It is a singular delicacy.

Smartass Corner:
A "demijohn" or "carboy" is a large, roundish vessel made of either ceramic or glass. They can hold from one to sixteen gallons each and are used to rest exotic Spirits, allowing them to gently oxidize and to develop new flavor compounds.
