The Caribbean is paradise on Earth and home to one of the oldest Spirits in the World: Rum. Each island is its own ecosystem and terroir, which means every bottle of Rum from this realm is unique and distinctive. Mezan, part of the Spirits behemoth, Marussia Beverages (also known for Aviation Gin and Elijah Craig Bourbon), is a purveyor of fine and pure Caribbean Rums, namely from Panama, Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana. Their Cellar Master hunts down authentic Spirits – young or vintage – and sets them aside to mature in ex-Bourbon casks. The brand offers untouched Rums: no sugar, no color, no glycol added. Just Rum and water. The only filtration present is a light gauze – really old school.
 
Mezan’s Panama Rum Vintage 2006 was column-distilled by an unnamed produced who grows their own sugar cane. It was matured twice in separate ex-Bourbon barrels that gave the Spirit its wonderful amber color. Rich nose offers floral notes and aromas of caramel, while the palate is pampered by flavors of guava and marmalade. Panama Vintage 2006 is a splendid sipper, but you’d be right to put it in the Hemingway Tree cocktail or the ravishing Robertino.
