A cult-like Gin.

Monkey 47 is distilled by Christoph Keller for Alexander Stein of Black Forest Distillers. Monkey 47 is very much a novelty within the Gin Universe, unique because of its low production and a real difference in style and taste

Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Gin is obtained by double distillation of sugar beet molasses and a third distillation with botanicals, aged in clay pots. Made with 47 botanicals and bottled at 47%, they also use a secret weapon typical to the Black Forest in the mix - lingonberries. It's become almost a cult like Gin over the recent years and in case you haven't had a taste of this flavor bomb, we can give you nothing else but a recommendation of the highest order!

An extraordinary Gin. Period.

Appearance / Color
Clear with a silvery, glycerous appearance.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
Crisp and fresh on the nose. The initial perfumed burst is of sweet berry / juniper and assorted fresh citrus peel; further aeration releases pine needle, lavender and clove-like scents. Distinctive and somewhat unconventional, some tasters found the aromatics a little cologne like.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
On the palate, this begins soft and glycerous, gradually building intensity, climaxing in an explosion of peppers; Mid palate is off dry and oily with juniper, lavender, pine needle and spice. Some tangy notes in the mouth add extra freshness to the traditional characters. Fairly complex.

Finish
Good balance of all components and racy, fresh finish, flavors persisting into the long, dry after taste.

A new fave. I’ve been a Bomb...

A new fave. I’ve been a Bombay Sapphire drinker for years and this smooth, easy drinking gin may have moved into the top spot.
