A surprisingly good 100% Rye Whiskey — from Germany — made in a historic distillery.
About forty miles southeast of Berlin is located a lovely park called the Spreewald — a wetland reserve criss-crossed with canals and marshes fed by the Spree River. This is also home to the oldest distillery in Germany — the Spreewald Distillery. Three friends who owned a media agency together drove down to sample Whiskey there in 2015, and when the then-owner mentioned that he was looking for a successor, they sold their agency and launched a new dream. After significant updates and a new Whiskey still, they began to release their signature Spirits under the Stork Club brand.
Stork Club Straight Rye Whiskey is their heart and soul and most awarded Spirit to date with four Gold and Double Gold Medals so far. It is made from local German rye and malted rye — so you will taste only the pure grain. It has been aged in a combination of casks — American oak, Napoleon oak, ex-White Wine, and ex-Sherry. The result is a surprisingly great Rye Whiskey at 45% ABV in the old American style, but with decidedly European aging.

Appearance / Color
Medium Amber
Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma has plenty of oak spice over a note of Nutella, followed by toasted rye bread and dark fruits.
Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate is a combination of ground ginger and butterscotch candies with cocoa and walnuts.
Finish
The finish is bright with a note of orange zest and a lingering dark chocolate.
