It’s like they captured a high mountain meadow in a bottle.
Liechtenstein is one of the smallest countries — just 62 square miles. It sits smack-dab between Switzerland and Austria in the Alps. So while The Alpinist is a legal company in Liechtenstein, it bills it’s core product as “Swiss Premium Dry Gin.” I guess the marketing team thought that “Liechtenstein” took up too much space on the bottle. Anyway, the company uses a distillery at the foot of the Alps using only water melted from the Aletch Glacier. Today they produce their signature Gin and a pair of Caribbean Rums that are tasty too.
Turns out that the melted glacier water makes a pretty big difference. The water is exceptionally “soft,” meaning that it had almost no dissolved minerals to impact the taste of distillation. The Alpinist Swiss Premium Dry Gin also has a local flare for flavor — it is filled with aromatic botanicals that grow wild in the high mountain valleys, including Silver Thistle, Lady’s Mantle, and Arnica. And yes, you can expect a fair amount of traditional “London Dry” ingredients as well. You’ll find Citrus zest a’plenty and enough juniper to let you know that you are drinking Gin. They keep the rest of the recipe a secret, but we suspect angelica root and lavender as well.
