To the best of our knowledge, this is the only blend of Lowland Single Malts today, delivering a lovely taste of the region.

The Douglas Laing Company was founded in 1948 by — you guessed it — Douglas Laing. They have a stellar reputation as one of the leading independent bottlers of Scotch Whisky in the United Kingdom. They started as by purchasing single casks of fine Single Malts. Then they grew to create their own blends. Now they even commission small batch production from some of the finest Whisky makers in Scotland and a few small shops too. This has allowed them to develop a solid range of private-label products to round out the offerings.

For the last few decades, Highland Single Malts have ruled the universe of premium Scottish Whisky. But over the last few years we have seen a welcome resurgence of Lowland drams that used to rule the world.

Douglas has assembled a first-of-its-kind specialty blend of Lowland Single Malts to create The Epicurean Whisky. They do not reveal the distilleries, but there are not that many so we will leave you to guess. Under the Monopoly-game label you'll find a refined, twelve year-old dram at 46.2% ABV that screams natural color and finish. It’s a sample of the region in a glass. And, it is a very nice way to rediscover the Lowlands.

Smartass Corner:
The word "Epicurean" comes from the ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus who — simply stated — believed that pleasure itself was the sole intrinsic, natural goal of existence.

Appearance / Color
Pale Gold

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is light and fresh with herbal notes of parsley, lemongrass, and mint laying a foundation for toasted oats and melon.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The flavor profile leans toward apples and pears over hints of white chocolate and more mixed herbs.

Finish
The finish is medium-length and brightly fresh with lemon zest, toasted grain, and a peppery bite at the end.

A subtle fruity nose that continues with the velvety taste. The finish is a gentle heat that lasts a minute or so. Very drinkable.
