A delightful NAS Scotch that celebrates the PX.

The tiny town of Rothes by the River Spey is home to four distilleries and has Scotch embedded in its DNA. One of those Whisky-making establishments is The Glenrothes Distillery (its name is literally "the valley of Rothes"), with history dating back to 1879. With ancient recipes and tradition by their side, they have been making award-winning Whiskies for decades.

The Glenrothes Whisky Maker's Cut is a creation of Master Distiller Gordon Motion, aged in the finest first-fill Sherry casks, and one of the Malts from the exciting Soleo Collection. Mr. Motion says 48.8% is a bit higher, yet complimentary strength and a perfect choice for any lover of Whiskies that spent some time with Sherry. The screaming red color on the bottle reflects the color of the Pedro Ximénez grape just before it begins to ripen. It's the only "No Age Statement" release within the collection and it's bottled at natural cask strength and color.

You can smell the sherry which is really nice. There is also vanilla and grape in there. Vanilla and spice come to the fore with the taste. There are some floral notes that play in the background that morph into candied fruit before finishing on a green grape note. The spice lingers all the way through to the finish. If this had a little creamier mouthfeel, I’d give it a 10!
