The Tyrconnell Distillery was originally owned by the Watt family in Ireland, dating all the way back to 1762. In 1876, the family entered a horse — a chestnut colt — in the classic Irish horse race called "The National Produce Stakes". No one thought that the young horse would win, and the bookmakers took action at 100-to-1 odds. Well, the little horse won, and that horse’s name was Tyrconnell. The Watt family promptly dedicated a new brand of classic Irish Whiskey to the horse, and it has been a best-seller ever since. The dark days of Prohibition shuttered the stills for a while, but the Kilbeggan Distilling Company dusted off the copper and cranked things up to full production again. Their line of Irish Whiskey is now the fastest-growing brand in Ireland.

The Tyrconnell 15 Year Old is finished in casks that used to hold Madeira fortified wine. Known for its rich complexity, it's the perfect pairing for this Irish dram.
