A single cask release of Ledaig Single Malt with a full dose of fire and sea on the palate.
The premiss of Chapter 7 Whisky is simple — each cask of Whisky is unique. The wood, age, temperature, its location in the rick-house… everything tells its own story. Large Scotch producers marry casks in large vats before bottling so that the master blender can try to make them all taste the same. The folks at Chapter 7 Whisky think that’s a shame.
Chapter 7 is the brain-child of Selim Evin. He thinks that each cask should tell its own unique tale, so he travels to Scotland and Ireland to hand-select single casks from the inventories of the world’s greatest distilleries. Then he custom bottles each one with its own story. How many bottles you ask? Well, until the barrel is empty.
Ledaig Distillery is located in Tobermory village on the island of Mull in the Inner Hebrides, just north of Jura and Islay. Chapter 7 Monologue 10 Year Old Ledaig 2009 is a ten year-old Single Malt release and true to form, we know a LOT of info about this dram. It was distilled in May 2009 and bottled in March of 2020 — easily surpassing the ten-year mark. The cask was a single Bourbon hogshead that yielded a total of 351 smoky bottles at 51% ABV. Of course, there was no chill-filtering nor artificial coloring.
Smartass Corner:
Chapter 7 has organized their releases into three categories. "Monologues" are single cask releases with a strictly limited quantity. "Anecdotes" are small batch or select blends that cannot be reproduced. Finally, "Chronicles" are small batch editions that are reproducible in limited releases.
