Let’s go ‘dramming’.

The premise of Chapter 7 Whisky is simple — each cask of Whisky is unique. The wood, age, temperature, its location in the rick-house… everything tells its own story. Large Scotch producers marry casks in large vats before bottling so that the master blender can try to make them all taste the same. The folks at Chapter 7 Whisky think that’s a shame.

Chapter 7 is the brain-child of Selim Evin. He thinks that each cask should tell its own unique tale, so he travels to Scotland and Ireland to hand-select single casks from the inventories of the world’s greatest distilleries. Then he custom bottles each one with its own story. How many bottles, you ask? Well, until the barrel is empty.

The Prologue was introduced in 2021 and is the newest of their Whisky series. Chapter 7 Prologue Batch #2 is a small batch blend of Speyside and Highland Single Malts that were aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. The Whiskies are aged between 4 and 8 years and 6,000 bottles were yielded. As the perfect casual, everyday dram, this edition complements their Monologue and Anecdote collection, plus, it’s a tribute to the so-called dramming. In the mid 1970s, it was customary (if perhaps not completely legal) to distribute drams to distillery workers between their shifts. The days of dramming are long gone but this offering brings the concept back with its floral and fruity and approachable palate, packed with sweet spices. Enjoy straight or mix it up.

Buttery nose, fruit and maybe bread-

The taste was a little spicy, but smooth. I tasted the smokiness but that also was super smooth, with a hint of sweetness.

Really nice

I wish I loved this, but the nose and taste were too smoky for me. I appreciated that the whisky was smooth and did not burn too much, however heavily peated whiskies are not my favorite. If you like smoke and peat you would love this spirit.
