A genuine malted barley Spirit from Switzerland profoundly influenced by its aging in local Beer and Wine casks for a green and fruity profile.

When most people think of Switzerland they think of lederhosen, fine watches, and their famous army knife. When we think of Switzerland, he thinks of Säntis Malt Whiskies and the Brauerei Locher Distillery. Brauerei Locher has been a Beer brewery for longer than the hills have been alive with the sound of music. But one day they realized that they had the tools and they had the talent and the good people of Switzerland needed a local dram. So they set to distilling their Säntis Malt Blended Malt Whiskies. Turns out that those Swiss are pretty good at it too. They’ve developed a wide range of Spirits on this malt base.

The first thing you need to know about Säntis Malt Edition Himmelberg is that it is 100% barley malt Spirit made with Alpstein spring water. It has been aged in an exceptionally unique combination of casks — ex-Beer casks from their own brewery coupled with a variety of Wine casks from local producers along the Rhine River. The result is a genuine barley malt Whisky with green notes of hops and toasted grain along with the sweeter, fruity notes of Rhine Wines. This complex Spirit is bottled at 43% ABV without chill filtering or artificial colorings.

Smartass Corner:
Säntis is a mountain peak in Switzerland just south of the Austrian border. It is in the Alps, but part of a different geological formation made of limestone called The Alpstein Range. The limestone-filtered water is exceptional for Whisky production.
